Yucca Mountain | 2012-2016

This cover was quite complex to produce. The book is about the Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository, in the US, a permanent disposal site where a lot of nuclear wastes will be stored. I can’t tell why I decided to remix Edvard Munch’s The Scream here (just read the book – it’s about what Earth will be in 10,000 years). I choose to transform The Scream into an anthropomorphic map of a mountain. I asked an illustrator to redraw the painting(on tracing paper) using lines only, and than I asked a geologist to draw a map from this new drawing. We spent a lot of time on that. The map is “real” in the sense that vegetation or water match the different altitudes. This cover was commented here. The book was reissued in September 2016.
